2011 Event Information will be avaliable soon

Safety
Please value your safety and our event by taking note of the following:

Our event uses open public roads so expect oncoming and over taking vehicles at all times. Traffic regulations apply. KEEP TO THE LEFT AT ALL TIMES. WE WILL NOT HESITATE TO DISQUALIFY ANY RIDERS WHO CONTINUE TO CROSS THE CENTRE LINE.
There will be hazards on the road so stay alert at all times.

Wear your Safety Standards approved cycle helmet as required by law.
Ride single file across all non marshalled bridges.

There are a number of one lane bridges on the course – the majority of these will not be marshalled – please exercise care on approaching each one lane bridge and be prepared to stop.
Be courteous to all other road users.

Some legs require turning across and through busy intersections so please exercise extreme caution at these points and be prepared to stop – Do not assume that you have the right of way.

Please do not ride on aero bars when riding in a bunch.

No support vehicles on the course please.
If you come across a rider who is injured you must stop and render assistance.  Advise the next rider to go back and warn the oncoming traffic.  Send another rider to carry on and make contact with a BDO Twin Coast Cycle Challenge official.  You can identify them with their high vis jackets.

All entrants participate at their own risk as signed on the entry form.

Race Numbers

You will receive your race number at registration. This is to be worn on the left-hand back pocket position. You must also attach your helmet number to the front of your helmet.

Timing

You will receive a timing transponder with your race number at registration. The transponder is then to be returned after you cross the finish line on the last day of the event. There will be a $50 penalty for any transponder not returned.

Placings and times will be determined by gun times.

If you do not start or fail to finish on any particular day YOU MUST advise the Race Director or Timing Officials.

You must start with your appropriate colour group or your time will be inaccurate. You are not permitted to change start groups during the event.

As this is a “Challenge” rather than a race category winners will be recognised, however there will be no significant prizes for placegetters. All prizes will be spot prizes.

Parking

Cyclists are asked to find their own parking. Some accommodation providers in Whangarei may offer four-day parking if you stay on the Wednesday night.

Start Groups

You will be starting in a group in accordance with your estimated Day One time. Each start group will be allocated a different coloured number. Groups will start in the following order each day with approximately 2 minutes between groups (gap will be longer between first two groups):

Green – First (Elite)

White – Second (<2:59)

Red – Third (3:00-3:29)

Blue – Fourth (3:30-3:59)

Yellow – Fifth (4:00+)
Please note that additional 'A' and 'B' divisions may be created for groups (as per 2009 event). Each group will be restricted to 80 riders.
Elite Group Selection: Evidence of performance must be supplied and should be at the following level - Rotorua-Taupo 100km flyer: Less than 2 hours 45 min, or Taupo cycle challenge: Less than 4 hours 20 min.

Marshals will help ensure that you are in the correct start group each morning of the event. The event will not start until all riders are assembled in their correct group.

Luggage

The luggage vehicle will be available to transport your gear from the start to finish each day at no extra charge. Upon finishing your day’s ride your luggage will be available from the truck at the finish area. You are also responsible for getting your luggage to the truck in the same area at least half an hour prior to the start each morning.

Results

A full set of results will be available on the www.twincoast-cycle.co.nz website. Daily results will be available to view at prizegiving after each days ride.

Rules

Remember – this is primarily a fun ‘challenge’ rather than a ‘race.’ The focus for us is that you have fun and are safe. The following rules are put in place for these reasons – also see the ‘Safety’ section.

The Race Director's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Hard shell helmets must be ANSI, SNELL or NZ STANDARD approved and must be worn properly fastened throughout the ride.

No support vehicles are permitted on the course.

Riders are not to use aero bars when riding in a bunch.

You will be cycling on the open road at all times, therefore it is important that you cycle in accordance with the Road Code and that you obey Police Officers and marshals. Please show courtesy to motorists who may not understand why you are on 'their' road.

Marshals and Police Officers will attempt to give you an unimpeded ride but you must be prepared to give way at intersections, one way bridges and the like.

Please inform the timing staff or the Race Director if you fail to start or fail to finish a cycle stage or withdraw from the event.

Any riders that ride irresponsibly and/or dangerously, including the continued crossing of the centre line, will be immediately disqualified from the event.

Any competitor or supporter who wishes to make a complaint about another competitor must do so in writing to the Race Director within an hour of the complainant finishing. The race Director’s decision is final.

Cellphone Coverage

Cellphone coverage is improving in Northland but can still be rather 'patchy' at times. For most of Day Two including the overnight stop at Opononi, the first half of Days Three and Four, cellphone coverage is very limited along the route.

Massage

Massage from Body Recon will be available at the finish of each day's ride at $12 for 10 minutes.

Valuables

Please bring a bike lock. Waka Roc Sports Club/Dynamo Events take no responsibility for the loss of, or damage to, any property during the event. All cyclists enter and compete at their own risk.
